At the end of the Autumn term as part of a local geography topic, Year 3 wrote a letter to the local MP for Rossendale and Darwen, Sir Jake Berry about the state of the local bingo ball on Burnley Road.. Little did they think they would get a visit in person to discuss the issue! As well as talking about the building, they discussed other local issues, like the fountain in the middle of town, local parks, and of course that favourite, potholes on the roads! They also found out how Parliament works, what an MP is and does and how new laws are made. This included a few mini-debates where Year 3 became Parliament on the important issues of serving hot chocolate in schools and whether Rossendale should be a no-fly zone!
Reception's 'A Little Nativity' was enjoyed by mums, dads, grandparents and family this week! The children performed beautifully and impressed us all. Well done reception class.
What a fabulous performance from our Year 1 and 2 children this week! Both performances were filled with fabulous singing, dancing and acting. The children definitely looked the part and remembered their lines beautifully. It was enjoyed by all. Well done Year 1 and 2!
Reception class have had a fun filled afternoon when parents and carers came in and enjoyed doing lots of different craft activities. We also had a sing song and listened to a Christmas story🎄
Year 1 had a fantastic trip to Gawthorpe hall this week! Christmas themed crafts, singing and much more were enjoyed by all the children.
On the 28th November, Year 2 and Year 6 were visited by the fire service and took place in two very different workshops!
Year 2 children enjoyed an interactive session, in which the fire service discussed fire safety, checking fire alarms at home, what to do in the event of a fire and what to say on the phone. The children had lots of fun too, trying on the protective clothing.
Year 6 children enjoyed a very informative 'Road Sense' session. The children were given guidance to help with the transition from primary to high school including:
All the children took an active part in the session and listened well to the very important advice they were given.
A big thank you to Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service for taking the time to visit our school.
Today children from Year 4 and 6 walked to Deerplay along with parents, local councillors and Bacup History trust. Children completed readings and a minutes silence was observed followed by The Last Post played on a bugle. It was a truly moving morning.
