Northern is an amazing place for our children to learn. In our latest news section we will share with you the latest events taking place across the school. More detailed information can be found on your child's class website page.
Today our children in Years 4, 5 and 6 received training in how to stay safe around water. They learnt how to spot dangers, how to keep safe and how to help someone in danger. They all provided some really good answers and Helen was very impressed.
We had a super time at our Teddy Bear's picnic this week. All of the children in Reception Class brought in their favourite teddy and we had a lovely picnic. Then it got even more exciting when the ice-cream van arrived and we all had huge 99 ice creams!
Today at Northern we have held our Northern's Nest Grand Final! We were very lucky to have 2 local business owners come into school to listen to our children's sales pitches and ask them all about their ideas. Anna and Lee were very impressed with all 3 entries and found it extremely hard to choose a winner but they did! They gave the overall winning idea to Caylen, Kyla, Chloe and Isabelle for their eco-friendly design so well done to the girls! They awarded Benjamin best presentation and ingenious idea and they awarded Max B and Jackson with the best advert in their pitch! Well done to everyone who took part!
Today our children took part in our Olympics-themed Games Day. They all had a country to learn about in their classes and they all made banners to take part in the procession like at the real Olympics! The children then all took part in Games Day which was organised and delivered by our fantastic Year 6 Sports Crew! Well done to everyone involved and the winning teams were Amethysts and Emeralds!
We were featured in an article in the Rossendale Free Press newspaper this week for our tremendous Race 4 Life fundraising.
Today our Year 4, 5 and 6 classes took part in a very important workshop all about keeping safe near dogs! They became detectives and looked at clues as to see which dogs could be dangerous and how to keep safe! The children were amazing and Jo was amazed by your answers and behaviour so well done!
Wow, what a race! All of the classes at Northern have taken part in our very own Race for Life to raise money for Cancer Research. Everyone was kitted out in their sports wear and all rose to the challenge. Our fundraising total currently stands at over £900! If you would like to donate to this amazing cause, you can do so here - https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/northern-primary-school I will announce the final amount raised on Friday 11th June.

Today in Year 6, we have had a virtual visit from Dharmachari Sanghaketu who is a Buddhist which links to our RE topic this term. He spoke to the children all about the religion and the children could answer his questions but also ask some great questions too. He then led them in a meditation session and as you can see, they all took it very seriously. Well done Year 6!
We are now in a position to share with our parents, carers and community that the defibrillator is now in place on the external wall of school next to the kitchen. This allows 24 hour access to the whole community should it be needed. In such circumstances, 999 should be dialled and the location of the school stated to receive a one-off access code which allows the housing unit to be opened. On behalf of everyone here at Northern, can we send a massive thank you to the community for all your support.
Today our Year 4 and 6 children had a visit from Jen who works for the North West Air Ambulance. Jen told us all about the charity and then we had a virtual tour of the helicopter and met the crew! The children asked some amazing questions and Jen went away from Northern knowing what we already did - the children here are amazing!
