Today our Year 5 and 6 children walked up to the Deerplay memorial to pay their respects to the soldiers by marking the 2 minute silence along with the rest of the country. The Year 6 children read extremely well and special thanks to Oliver for playing The Last Post in blustery conditions. Many thanks to all who attended.
This week our Year 2 and 3 children have had a very special visitor from Warburtons. They got to learn about the bread making process from start to finish and they also discussed healthy eating as well as making their own healthy sandwich. They learnt about hygiene in the factories and food hygiene too. Well done Year 2 and 3!
Today our Year 3 and 4 children had a very special visit from the author of the Alfie Jones book series - David Fuller. The author worked with the children on how to be an amazing writer and spoke about his journey and the books he has produced and why. He also spoke about his own learning barriers and how they should never stop anyone achieving their goals.
Today our children took part in a large variety of maths across the curriculum. This is to enable children to see maths through other subjects, through a real-life context and strengthen their application of their skills. This term's theme was Position and Direction. In addition to this, we challenged all classes to bring in pennies to create the longest penny path which we created in the yard. This also helps to boost our donation to Rossendale Hospice as we donated all coins to this fantastic charity. The winners in KS 1 were Reception class and winners in KS 2 were Year 5! Well done to all the children for taking part and a massive thanks to parents for sending in all of your coins!
Today Gemma from Little Zoo to You came into school to tell the children all about the After School club she is organising for after half term. She brought her very own Eco-System in and showed it to all the children in assembly. A letter has gone home tonight to tell you all about the club and if it proves popular, names will be drawn from a hat! Good luck!
Tonight our amazing Autumn Festival took place here at Northern. We had our infamous Chocolate Tombola, drinks, food and even a sweet stall from Kandy Korner! After we had all eaten and won some chocolate, we headed outside to watch the amazing fireworks display in a yard decorated by brilliantly designed pumpkins. A massive thank you to the PTA and our staff for organising and running the event. A fantastic evening was had by all!
