On Sunday Northern All Stars Cheer took part in The National Schools Cheerleading Championships Manchester. They performed a cheer dance and a pom dance. We are all immensely proud of them as they came away with a 2nd and 4th. Miss Nuttall would like to thank every single parent who has helped support their child and to all the girls for putting in 100% and smashing the competition today.
A sneaky preview at some of the girls getting ready for the National schools cheer competition this Sunday
They are all working so hard!
Today has been a very special day here at Northern! We have been having lots of fun and doing lots of activities in honour of His Majesty King Charles and his coronation this weekend. We started the day with our special assembly and were delighted to hear our Reception class singing the coronation song to the rest of the school. At lunch, we had a lovely picnic under our amazing bunting and every child was lucky enough to have a hat and flag each! They have all enjoyed their day of celebrating and learning more about the historical event of coronations! Well done staff and children of Northern - enjoy the real celebrations this weekend!
Buddhist minister Sanghaketu Dharmachari visited Year 6 to talk to them about Buddhism. The class are looking at what buddhists mean by living a 'good life' and Sanghaketu told them the story of how Prince Siddhartha Gautama became The Buddha by finding the answer to living a good life. He also explained why meditation is so important to buddhists and led the class in a meditation to help them relax and focus before their SATs tests next week!
Today, 8 adventurous children from Northern embarked on a scavenger hunt at Marl Pits. Children travelled through muddy fields and tall trees as they put their orienteering skills to the test. We are pleased to say that the children also managed to complete this before any other school!
The children represented Northern excellently as they demonstrated determination, team work and positivity. Well done everybody!
Today our school council members from Years 1 to 5 have been out with Kirsty, Lyndsay and Vinnie from Lancashire Constabulary to use the speed gun to monitor the speed of cars travelling too fast past our school. The children spoke to several drivers who were travelling over 30mph to raise awareness of how dangerous speeding is. They then got to try on Vinny's hat and jacket! Well done children on representing Northern so politely and sensibly!
