Latest News

Northern is an amazing place for our children to learn. In our latest news section we will share with you the latest events taking place across the school. More detailed information can be found on your child's class website page.

  • Remembrance Day

    Wed 11 Nov 2020

It seemed very strange this year not to be walking with our Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 children up to the Deerplay War Memorial. This is such an important part of our Remembrance Day acts of remembrance that we chose instead to brave the elements on the school field.

Our Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 children laid a wreath at one of the trees on the school field after taking time to reflect during their walk. We were lucky enough to have a recording of the last post played by one of Northern's former pupils which added to our act of remembrance.

Our younger children created poppies which were displayed on the school railings.

  • Sports After School Clubs

Wed 11 Nov 2020 Mrs Ewens

From Thursday 11th November until the end of term, you will be able to log on to the Youth Sports Trust after school club sports adventures.  These look like a fantastic way to keep fit whilst we are unable to access other sports events and centres.

  • Autumn Festival Fun

    Fri 16 Oct 2020

What a shame that this year's pandemic has put a halt to our annual Autumn Festival fun. It is always so lovely to see all of our families enjoying the fireworks and Festival fun together. Let's just hope that we get to celebrate together later in the year.

Thankfully our PTA have come to the rescue and our carved pumpkin competition could still go ahead - even if it had to be from a distance.

Our Key Stage 1 children also had fun taking part in a spooky crafts session with Lancashire Adult Learning.

    Well done to our winners.

  • National Restart a Heart Day

    Fri 16 Oct 2020
Today was National Restart a Heart Day and Year 6 took part in a virtual First Aid training session which taught them all about the signs of cardiac arrest and what to do if they were suddenly in that situation. The children all learned about how to perform CPR and were told how to make a correct and informative 999 call. It was a brand new way of learning for us and the children certainly enjoyed it! Well done Year 6!
  • Harvest Celebrations

    Thu 08 Oct 2020

Once again our Northern community did not fail to amaze us with their generosity towards those who are not as fortunate as we are. We received mountains of food donations which have all been gratefully received by the food bank in Bacup. Your child's class webpage has all of the harvest fun enjoyed on it.

Here are a few of our Harvest highlights....

  • World Animal Day

    Mon 05 Oct 2020

What a lucky escape I had in school today! Thank you Key Stage 1 parents for saving me from a menagerie of pets parading through the school gates this morning. So many children tried really hard to convince their parents that they could bring an actual pet to school with them today rather than a photograph.

All of the animal fun is on your child's class website page.

  • European Day of Languages

    Fri 25 Sep 2020
What fun children across the school had today learning about the languages, food and customs in different European countries. Reception learnt all about France, Year 1 learnt all about Italy, Year 2 learnt all about Germany and Year 3 learnt all about Spain. Check out your child's website page for more of the learning fun.
  • Roald Dahl Day

    Mon 14 Sep 2020

Well we might not be able to dress up this year but that has not stopped the children having a fantastic time in school. Your child's class webpage will have lots of photos on all the Roald Dahl fun that your child has been involved in. One of my highlights was seeing all of the fun in Reception when they were making their own golden eggs, golden tickets, Oompa loompas and even their own Chocolate Factory.

  • The School Year 2019 - 2020

    Fri 17 Jul 2020
